Facilitation of learning and achievement of all students (in accordance with the SBE Universal Education Vision and Principles).
Every student has the capabilities to learn and make great strides and achievements. The background of where a student comes from or where they once were should not deter or predict what he or she can become in the future. A good teacher turns into a great one when he or she can modify instructional strategies using whatever current resources are available to enhance the learning of each and every student. Every child wants to achieve greatness; it is the responsibility of the teacher to provide the necessary tools to do so.
The pictures below are from a cultural immersion experience I had at an intermediate school in Dearborn, MI. These students had recently arrived in the U.S. and were learning English when they arrived. Using the resources I had readily available, I worked with these students on a daily basis to assist them in asking/answering basic questions so that each of them were able to communicate in the English language.

Below is an example of a 1st grade informational reading unit that required both a pre- and post-assessment analysis of student achievement and progress towards the overall learning goal. I worked directly with students during my student teaching program to assess prior knowledge of the topic and then modified my lessons to best fit the needs of all students in the class. Once the lessons were finished, I then reflected back on the unit in its entirety based on the subject matter, instruction/delivery of information, the individualized student learning, and the assessment portions.
